Hello,
I just switched over from an HP CD-Plus burner to a Sony burner and it will not read the CD's burned on the HP drive. The HP drive is toast so I'm stuck without access to some very important data.
I've scoured the net and read that there is some sort of firmware upgrade available from HP's site that will correct the problem but it's difficult to find any answers there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How where the cd's burned? What program did you use, what program are you now using? Did you uninstall the software that came with the original hp?

Thank you for the welcome.
I was using the program that came with the HP burner before the drive took a dump. I haven't uninstalled the software that came with the HP. Perhaps I should try that?
ISO Buster can see the data on the CD but it was only a demo version so it won't let me convert it to anything usable by the Sony drive. Why would the burning program prevent the drive from reading the CD if XP handles the device drivers?
I'm lost!!

What program came with the HP burner? And, what came with the Sony?
Was the original Easy CD Creater? If so did you use "packet writing" to burn?
Right now it is a reading/transllation problem caused by software, to my mind, not the drive itself which probably reads regular cd's with no problem whatsoever, right? Unless the firmware update you mentioned does indeed fix a problem this particular drive has with reading "older" packet written cd's.
So, give us the model number of the Sony CDRW and maybe we can help you navigate their site.
Also, remove the old burning s/w, and install what came with the sony. Then let's see what comes of it.
