I tried to play a cd the other day and Windows media player informed me I had to import a license ..........All my burning capabilities worked fine up til this point. Now no matter what program I use I cannot burn anything. However I did get lucky at one point (since this began) and was able to burn a cd. Then it went back to not letting me burn. Xp Pro Windows Media Player 9 and Real one palyer (not sure which version) I have Norton systems works and scheduled maintenance so recycle bin has most likely been emptied. Is there any way to get my original licenses back or is it a permanent problem? I have albums on my hard drive that I used windows media player to put there. Now when I try to back them up, using Nero I get a "some files could not be added" message. When I use media player (using the copy to cd or dievice option) to burn them it simply closes the disc after converting the files. Afterwards a "Windows Media Player cannot copy files to the recordable disc" message pops up with options to close or find More information. So far Real one player wont even play these tracks ...........something about not being able to find the tracks.................
and trying to burn it same thing unable to add tracks dialog box pops up. I have also tried converting my files from WMA to MP3's but that doesnt work either.
Help I think Windows Media player Hijacked my files.

Welcome to WD sublime_31

Dont use Win Media Player as your burning software, use Nero.

Try to install WMP9 again http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/a/2/8a27acce-5c9e-46b3-8996-1e76c0413d17/MPSetupXP.exe

And instead of Real Player, get Real Alternative here (http://mirror.edskes.com/).

What type of files are you trying to burn? WMP will not let you burn certain types as part of its digital rights management.

I believe these are WMA since I used media player to put them on my hard drive however before I imported these license I was able to burn them. These are legit copies from the Original CD.

DRM doesn't know the difference. try the move your music article here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/windowsxp/movetoxp.aspx) and update the licence manager.

Sorry your earlier post got missed.

What version of Nero are you using? You need version 6 to burn wma files with drm. Needs to be the latest (or one of the latest) updates.
