Has anyone tried to open a canon LiDE 30 scanner, or any other LiDE scanner for that matter?
I'm trying to get it open without destroying it, but not having much luck; so if anyone knows how, I'd love to be in on the secret!

So welcome to windrivers forums monobeg .
Why are you trying to take your scanner to bits ? No offence or anything but if you can't get it to bits I don't rate your chances with fixing it !

Thankyou for your welcome!
I'm trying to get the thing open because the indiviuals at Canon have managed to dirty the inside of the glass (and this isn't the first time either!). So I just want to give the inside a quick wipe clean and put it back together.
The thing is, because its one of these new plastic compact toys, there are no screws or anything that you would find in less modern devices. It must have little plastic clips on the inside; but I don't want to go looking without knowing where they are incase I break one of them.

So I guess you either fix it yourself or get good at complaining .. me I'd barrage customer services one way or another until I got some joy & got some freebies out of them too for the hassle of returning it - most likely if you explain 'well' to them, if its current they'll just swap it for new or another refubished so you don't have to be 'without' (assuming its in warranty ).
Or you do like I do when stuffs out of warranty & just keep easing the clips apart having removed any likely screws & looked for push catches etc, I can't see that anyone can describe just where exactly they might be ... (of course you might damage it this way if you get a little eager) - gently does it !

Actually, this is the third in a row that I've recieved like this. I called up Canon last week and they were completely useless. The calltaker didn't help at all, and when I asked to speek to her manager - put on hold - she said the manager was busy, "but he'll just tell you exactly the same thing". How did she know he would say exactly the same thing? "I just checked" With who? I thought you said he was busy... Anyway, she even refused to leave a message for him; no joke!
So I'll keep writing letters until I get a response I think.

Invoke their quality assurance... find out who is responsible for quality in customer service and talk direct to them.

Yes. I won't try and fix it myself - too much chance of something going wrong. I'll just keep calling their 1-800 numbers untill they give a decent response.
