Computer not working with printer card

Hi all,

I have a simple problem, I hope it has a simple solution.
Since a Dot Matrix Citizen printer started spewing gibberish, a check was made to find the culprit. It was decided the printer is fine (connected to another computer) and nothing wrong with the cable. That left the computer and its LPT connection so
a ST Lab printer card was bought to replace it. For some strange reason, however, the computer refuses to even be turned on, with the card in either of the 3 slots we tried. The printer card works w/o a problem in another computer.
Is this a MB issue or is there something that can be done to use the card?
BTW, I did disable the LPT port in the Bios, of course.

Spewing gibberish can be a cable problem - how did you test the cable?
A virus can cause this as well but, it's usually a driver problem though.

Without knowing the motherboard make and model, it would be hard to say what the problem may be. exactly which printer card? (http://www.st-lab.com/stlab_product.html#)

The cable was hooked in another computer-printer. No problem there.
Regarding a virus, the system is quite well protected so I hope and believe this is not the case.
I can't tell, right now, the MB details as I'm not near that computer, I'll look it up.

When the original problem started, did you reload the printer drivers?

I suspect that your computer may have corrupt printer drivers. Try deleting the printer, restarting your computer and then re-installing the printer software. Gibberish out of the printer is a sign that the printer is being communicated with but does not understand what it is being told.

A sound advice which was already adopted earlier with no effect but I'll retry the way you suggested. Thanks.

I was able to put another St-Lab printer card into the the computer and this time it works! It's exactly the same as the one who didn't so I'm not sure why the first refused to cooperate.
Anyway, it's fine but I just need to find the Dos driver somewhere cause the floppy that came with that apparently went missing.
