I have recently acquired a modem from a friend but without any driver software. On the back it had V1456VQH-R3 INT2 and I found a driver on the Askey website. It is now installed as a Rockwell HCF 56K Speakerphone PCI Modem. When I go to Modem -->Diagnostics---> More Info It says "Modem failed to respond. Make sure it is properly connented. Verify the Interrupt for the Port is Properly set." What do I do. The modem is installed correctly as far as I can tell. I know zip about modems and hope someone can help me. I have tried for 4 days to get on the internet!!!

The standard allocation of interrupts is:
IRQ(interrupt)4 for COM1 & COM3
IRQ3 for COM2 & COM4
Assuming the driver is the correct one for your modem, check which port the modem is on, probably COM4 or COM3. Then, assuming you are using WIN9x, in Device Manager, look at Properties, Resources for the COM ports, and make sure the IRQ used for the port the modem is on is appropriate. If it seems to be wrong, the COM (serial) port settings may be wrong in your CMOS setup.
If the modem is installed on COM2, you will need to disable your motherboard COM2 setting in the CMOS setup, because they will fight for the resources. This may be your problem. Also, if you have a serial mouse on COM1, the modem should be on COM2 or COM4 to avoid a clash with the mouse.
Hope this helps.

I have now downloaded the above driver. My modem is on COM3 but when I try to do the Diagnostics --> more info part it just says "Couldn't Open Port". Is my modem Dud?

nope! WHat you will want to try is to COMPLETELY uninstall whatever you unsattled prior to the correct driver; then re-stall it. once you've verified that the resources the modem requires are not in use by anything else. a reboot should then make it work correctly.
