I've had a Toshiba SD5112 DVD-RW for about two months and have had no trouble simply watching movies with it. In the past week I've been trying to copy some DVDs with various programs, but my drive could not recognize blank memorex DVD-Rs. Now when I try to play a normal DVD the video works normally, but I get no sound. If I open the Audio_TS folder it shows up as empty. I've tried updating drivers and removing all the DVD copying software I had installed, but nothing has worked. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Welcome to windrivers gduboff

Not all blanks are created equal... in fact most of these older burners are VERY choosy about the media.

toshiba doesn't seem to have an approved list (http://www.toshiba.com/tai-new/division.jsp?ID=10) so I suggest you contact them. Also confirm your model is SDR5112

As for no sound... what does device manager say about sound and multimedia devices? What windows? What sound card do you have?

Thanks for the reply NooNoo. I'm running on XP Pro, and the device manager doesn't report any problems with sound devices, and the fact that explorer doesn't show any sound files DVDs leads me to believe that it's a read error. My model is SD-R5112 (http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage/Index.asp?page=PCI&nav=ISH_PRS&stype=product&ptype=&frame=content&model=SDR5112)
and my sound card is built into the motherboard I'm running on. Thanks for the help, considering I got the burner for very cheap off of Tiger I'm considering just returning it and finding another one.

That would be the best plan! TigerDirect? or another company?

TigerDirect, but I bought it as part of a barebones, do you know if they're good with returns?
