Hey everyone...
I am at a friends house helping them out with there PC but I forgot a command for Windows 2000 professional...
You know how when u want to get into system configuration on a Windows 98SE you go to the start menu hit run and type in config and u got it?...
Well how do you do this on 2000 Professional?.... I need to change her start-up options.
Thank you in advance for any responses that will help.

2000 doesn't have it. You can copy msconfig.exe from XP or 98 and run it from the floppy.

Look in the registry for the run strings, see if you can identify the one that's being called up (probably identical to the error message she gets at boot). In registry, goto MyComputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAREMicrosoft\Wi ndows\currentVersion\, and look for any keys (looks like folders) that say run. Highlight them, and observe the right pane to find the call to the missing file, then just delete the string in the right pane (not the key in the left).
Disclaimer for the registry: If your not careful you'll really mess things up. So take your time in there!!!

Maybe he doesn't have access to the file as there’s no additional PC’s in the vicinity. I know you can download it from some sites on the net, but it might be more prudent to direct him to a trusted location, instead of repeating a previous post...

Thank you for taking the time to critique my efforts. Your input, is expected and appreciated.
Especially, since this is a technical area, and not the lounge.

I know where we are, too bad you don’t get it. It was a valid critique; just because you have a hard time with criticism doesn’t justify your retort. He was asking for help, not a "." with a repeated quote from another member. Are you here to help or antagonize???

I would ask you the same thing. If he's not able to copy a file to a floppy, then rummaging around the registry might not have been the best solution.
Go play with Confus-ed, I'm not in the mood.

You show no logic, he doesn't have the file because he's at someone else’s house to work on their PC. Since he has Internet access he could download the file if you know where it is, I don’t know of any trusted sites, so I offered the manual method for him to us at his on risk.
I am not fighting with you, however it sure seems like you are with me. So if you are here to help, put your weapons down, and hone your deduction skills...they work much better then weapons when troubleshooting remote issues...

If you can't get msconfig.exe then backup the reg and go for the windows/run entry in the registry. i take a shot at downloading msconfig.exe. just check ms signature before using.
