I have a Lucent Win Modem and I used to have GTE as my ISP. There I got 52K connections on a regular basis. I recently switched to Mindspring and my connections dropped to 26.4K no matter what I do. Their techs told me to buy a new US Robotics modem but I don't accept that answer, PLEASE help me.

That may be your only choice. I have several customers who cannot use anything but 3Com modems with there ISP's. Good luck!

Tell your ISP to PI*S off! They must be getting kick backs from USR. What a load of Horse Sh*t!!!!
Go back to mindspring.
Report your ISP to the BBB, and the Chamber of Commerce.
Phone them and tell them to get a tech support department, the guy you talked to obviously doesn't know SH*T about modems.
You don't need to go out and buy a $200 modem to connect, as you've previously connected at 52k, tell your ISP you expect the same from them. If they don't deliver, write nasty letters, post their name on this BBS with a complaint, publish a web page explaining how lousy they are.
I can't tell you how mad this post made me. If I told a customer that "in order to connect with us you have to buy XXX product", I'd lose my job!
There,...I feel better now http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/biggrin.gif

it may be that they system that mindspring uses only recognises x2 or v.90 modems
make sure you have the most current driver for your modem and keep trying
as well as telling mindspring off if it is indeed in thier equipment and not yours.
as reboot said if any of the rest of us said something like that we would either be unemployed or out of business
