copying/capturing live progs from TV

Is it possible to copy/capture the live programs from TV to computer.If yes which type of video capture card/ or TV tuner card is required and which is the software to be used for the same. How will be the quality of the copied/captured video progs etc.

If u already have a VIVO (Video In Video Out) card u can use that and some Capture software, but the quality will not be so great, for really good quality go for a dedicated capture card. InterVideo came with my VIVO ti4600 and its good, Adobe Premiere also does it i think.

Thanks. I have only sis 305 card with tv out.I want to know from u the excat name and url of the the card, so that I can capture tv proms without the help of tv tuner card, If u know any pl advise and guide me.

That of course is the wrong way around ;) ..

I'll pressume for now that you want to capture analogue TV signal, for that either a VIVO card connected via a VCR or similar (you need a 'tuner' to capture signal with) or 'any old TV card' (from $25 upwards, pretty much everywhere) will do it, you might buy integrated capture/video cards like ATIs All-in-wonder range (expensive & I don't know if you need a new video card anyway), or the 'sky is the limit' for more advanced capture devices, these can be internal or external (say via firewire or USB), software almost always gets 'chucked in' with any hardware purchase.

BTW since you appear to be from outside europe/america, its not so much use anyone offering URLs to you as delivery/availability etc needs checking. I've added examples of stuff though so you can see ;) (just random googles!)

Dead on. You want a TV tuner card. I've had the ATI cards and have found them to be, well, I'd think about getting someone elses brand but honestly I haven't tried other brands.

Best bet is to get the card at a local shop so as not to have issues with NTSC or PAL.

But -ed i didnt need a vcr, when capturing using my Gainward VIVO Ti4600, just directly from the TV out signal.

I pressume you mean 'TV in signal' ?

How the hell do you tune it in ? Sure I can connect up my video cam directly via an s-video connection on my video card & capture that (VIVO) - only one range of signal - TV signal however is broadcast (on a range of frequency) for the 'video in bit' of VIVO to work, it all needs to come in on one frequency as that's the difference between a 'capture card' (the in bit of VIVO) & a 'TV card' - ones got a tuner & one ain't - hence the 'use a vcr' quip, as pretty much everyones got one of them laid about ..

You done made me confus-ed now ! :p

Ahh, u mean to tune all the channels in, no not that, just direct what comes on the TV gets sent to my PC. Sry got confused too. :D

Thanks for the guidance. I so confused that I do not know what I should do and which card I have to purchase as I am quite new to computer any way I shall think over and findout from our local vendor.

Best way ;) ..get some general advice here (or places like it) then go see whats in the shops/available to you where you are. In general a TV capture/tuner should be available (certainly on the net) from usd$25 or so, this should give you 'acceptably close to your existing TV signal', maybe not so hot for better quality capture say from a video cam etc but for watching TV, absolutley fine IMHO.
