Welcome to windrivers Stag. Your motherboard is an Asus ME-99VM. All your drivers are here: http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=ME99-VM&Type=Latest
You have onboard Crystal Logic 4280 sound. You have a choice of two win98 drivers - vxd or mdm. You will probably have better luck with the vxd.

Will he ? - I dunno if you can say that ..
VXD stands for 'Virtual eXtendended Device' & WDM stands for windows driver model, these are two methods of controlling a device to produce the desired result, here sound. Both 'drivers' (A WDM driver isn't really a driver like a VXD one is as they take advantage of different calls within windows, a WDM 'driver' is like a driver for a driver - if that makes any real sense ?) 'hook' to different levels within the o/s & use those features to work - either way a badly written one will fail - I guess Hudonsmith is taking the notion that the extra complexity isn't 'quite so' in 98SE (this is when the idea of standard drivers using embedded function calls took over inside a standard windows method -WDM - instead of writing them just for any device -VXD) - so my general advice is to try the WDM driver that should work first & then if you have issues fall back to the earlier type, VXD ..
Note you may not find a 98 driver other than WDM type, in that case try 95 drivers which will definately be VXD type ones ;)

Welcome to windrivers Tim. Need to know the specific 5000 you have - should be a letter following the number. Look for a sticker on the top or back of the computer.

looked over under sideways and down - the only number, other than the 5000 on the front face of the tower I could find was inside a plastic sleeve like drawer on the front.
It is:
"Model 5WV232"
"3509FPPWN34H"
Quotations mine
Thanks
