SP 2 issue, or not??

Im off to a PC on Monday with a sound issue. Its an Athlon 64 system, MSI K8N Neo mobo, using OB sound. Windows XP Pro.
The guy has an issue with sound playing back at "double speed", be it a music CD or a DVD film. All correspondence so far has been by e-mail. He has SP 2, BUT, claims that the system was OK straight after (maybe because I sent a warning to all Athlon 64 customers about SP2), but that the problem developed a few days later. Ive had him slow down the hardware acceration, but to no avail.
I cant find anything in the SP2 sticky relating to this. Any ideas??

32 or 64 bit xp ?

I had similar issues with a proposed customer rig, then tried the 64 bit version & it all went well ... I'm not sure of the explanation why, but it looks to me that you might need 64 bit drivers for all the speeds etc to work out right .. btw do you have a.n.other sound card to test this 'theory' out with ?

32 bit.
I carry a spare sound card with me, but would rather get SP2 facts together first.
