HP Scanjet 4470c

AHHH!!! I absolutly HATE this scanner! I've have it for a long time and can never get it working. Didn't really mind, but now i have a reason i need it, and i can't get it to work. I've tried with both usb and parallel cords. I install the drivers and thats fine, i turn off the computer, connect everything, and turn it back on. Then when i click install, a box comes up saying that it might not be windows XP compatible, and i click "continue anyway". It finishes installing and says "there has been an error intalling the device." then when i restart the computer, a blue screen appears that say something about there being hardware not installed right, so windows had to shut down so it didn't hurt anything.

Can anyone help me? Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thank you
