Setting up FTP site using IIS in XP

I need a little help. trying to setup an FTP site on my home PC. Running XP Pro. I have IIS installed. named my FTP site. setup my router (linksys NR041) for forwarding through my FTP site.
so, the problem is when i try to access my FTP server on my other computer (W2K Pro), i get an error message saying Windows cannot access this folder. The operation timed out.
my FTP server is set for 192.168.1.102 and port 21.
so if i type
ftp://192.168.1.102 on my W2K PC, i should be able to access it right?
But outside my network, they will need another IP address, right? the WAN IP address, is that correct?

Wow,its nice when I answer my own question. i had SP2 installed, so I disabled the firewall. Now, i have to figure out how others can access my FTP server. i'm still using my Linksys NR041, and i've setup port forwarding. So, what IP address does someone use to access my FTP server?

anyone know why users outside my network cannot access my FTP server. maybe its the router settings? been doing research. the router settings appear right,but they still can't access my site. Again its a Linksys router.

You need to give users the external IP address (wan)to your router.

This address may change though depending on your broadband ISP so it your ftp site could stop working one day without your knowledge. The you'll have to tell everyone the new IP address, rinse and repeat. The eaier thing to do is go to someone like www.dynodns.com or www.no-ip.com and register a fake dynamic domain from them which you will tell people to go to that will handle all the IP address updating for you.
