I have windows Xp and had to repair after a problem with the hal.dll file.
Upon repair the sound did not function. I have a creative audigy platinum sound card. I have tried completely removing the drivers and programs and reinstalling with no help. One thing i noticed in the control panel after the repair was that the playback device was listed as SB Audigy Sound FFCO while it used to be FF88 and maybe not SB.Also after the repair my video card reverted to vga mode only.

Using everest this is what i got

In the PCI table Everest lists the gpu, so I wouldn't worry about that. The sound problem is something else. Give this a go: remove the card from the pc and then remove EVERY instance of the SB from the OS...yes, even the reg. Then, put the card back in and let XP auto detect. Then tell us what happens. Or: try the SB card in another pc. If it works no problem, you know you have to do what I said before.
