Where does the updater save files?

What default directory does the windows auto updater save the files to?

I am going to reformat my C drive and want to find where the XP SP2 downloaded file is so I can put it in my E drive and do some speed trials.

I don't even know what the file is called but think it was around 58mb?

(I don't want to download it again especially if it is causing my slowdown)

Can anyone help me with SP2 default location, filename etc...please?

Anyone know the XP service pack 2 default automatic update directory and filename so I can save it to CD or another partition?

They are usually in c:\ windows $NtUninstall 'something or other' $ or very similar anyway I think.

So that's what he wants to back up then :D, as I've just realised I answered where the installer saves the files it takes out, which is in the uninstall that matches it with the $ stuff around it :rolleyes:, & what you've said is the cumulative of all the updates unpacked :thumbs: , which is what he wants I think so windows update won't have to redownload it, which is what the original question he gets at is about ..

Another way to do this is slipstreaming , if you know someone with broadband & a cd/dvd writer to get it for you on cd say (you can apply online for this too here (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx) ) you can use the network installs of patches (sp2 is 266mb !) to do updates & create a one stage install cd by using a windows install disk - random slipstream instructions for xp & sp2 (http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html) by way of example ;) - very handy if you like clean installs & creates you a backup as well if you have a burner available as you can modify this to then add new updates too, as really you want the updates there without having to connect up to get them re-installed.

Thanks Noo Noo, I actually found it myself finally.

Thanks also confus-ed I worked out the $uninstall files were not the ones I needed.

I also found out about slipstreaming and are currently downloading the full network sp2 pack.
