I am working on a PC for someone, it's an Abit IC7-G motherboard with a built in Intel Pro 1000 giganet card.

He said it was working fine till he put in a router, but the router didn't work. (He didn't log into the BIOS of the router to put in the DSL username and password) He spent half the day unpluging and pluging in the Router.

He then tried to install all the software for the DSL modem and go on line via the USB port. I think he may have tried to connect the USB and the Ethernet cord at the same time.

Either way, I explained to him how to get the router working, by now his ethernet card doesn't work. I netmeeting connected to him and tried to remove the driver. I installed the driver off the CD, newest from ABIT, and the generic from Intel. They all say CODE 10. I can't check out IRQ's cause I am connected remotley, but I am going in person soon. I don't think that on-board lan has an option to change IRQ's on that board. Is it possible to fry the port from fiddling with the router and DSL modem so much?

I'm at my wits end, and I don't want to install from scratch. Any ideas?

code 10 means lack of resources.

suggest you uninstall the driver and the card from the os, shut down and go into bios and disable the onboard nic. Boot to safe mode and make sure its all gone. Check the inf directory for the inf files for the driver... and any other files this nic may use and rename or delete them. Reboot to normal mode to ensure you didn't go overboard on the renaming. Safely remove all usb devices and unplug them. Shut down once more. Go back to bios, enable the nic. Try again. (keep the usb devices unplugged till you get the nic going.)

For those suffering from a "Code 10" Cannot Start when installing the drivers for their PRO/1000 Desktop Connection onboard LAN. The IC7 & IC7-G have a port for plugging in your LAN cable; however, the IC7 has no electronics for it to work - Only the IC7-G will have. The way to see whether your MB has the onboard LAN or not is by looking at the serial number sticker next to PCI slot 5. If your serial number is IC7--********. Then you have IC7 not IC7G and IC7 has no LAN on board (although the port exists!!!).

Took me forever to find this out; to the point I gave up and bought a PCI LAN Card. Hope this helps as there are others out there with this same fault (although the only fault is the lack of sticker that says LAN port not active). Got to love ABIT for that spoof.

I am interested to find if this has helped - e-mail me on chris.edmondson@i12.com
