I've notice a longer wait then before when my Windows XP would start-up and I would launch my desktop. I kinda boiled it down to some of Windows worthless bootups so I tweaked it alittle, but there is still alittle more delay when I watch my Window Task Manager "Processes" some of the process won't display till about a min. or two have pass and then it will all of sudden show up. I believe it might have to do something with the DSL connection I have, cause anything I run that brings up my dsl connection window, will not come up until the time has passes and those processes starts. Does this sound like anything anyone might know, and how I would go about fixing this problem. I didn't have this problem a few months ago.

My system:

Gigabyte GA-7VKMLS
Duron 1.2gzh
256 meg ram pc100
40x16x48x cd/w/rw
16x dvd rom
Onboard S3 ProSavage DDR shared memory
Onboard AC'97 Sound
ATI T.V. Wonder w/o remote
Windows XP Home Edition (upgrade) SP2
thats about it.

DSL connections use DHCP unless you have specifically been given a static ip.

When you start up - do you have xp auto connect at startup? If so, what is likely to be happening is everything is waiting on the dhcp server at the isp end. Your computer says - "Excuse me, I had this IP last time, please give it to me again".... the dhcp server checks to see if it can issue it, if not, issues another. If it issues another, you have to wait while these things get setup locally and then confirmed and the connection is made.

If you have a static IP issued to you by your isp, you will only have the confirmation delay.

To prove this, remove the dsl connection from startup and see what happens.
