Hi, I sure can use some help with this computer. Windows 98.
When I start my computer the following happens.
C:\S100.SYS missing
I also have another file gone, but I guess we should fix this first????
Thank Just Barb

that is part of the DOS drivers for a Rio Diamond Sonic Impact sound card. is your sound working ok in Windows? if you don't play any DOS games you can remove the reference to s100.sys from your config.sys file. to do so:
Click Start button
Click Run
type in sysedit and click OK
Click on the window for config.sys
Remove the line that refers to s100.sys (or better yet type REM followed by a single space at the beginning of the line that refers to s100.sys)
Save your changes and exit the editor
Reboot
What other error were you getting?

Hi, thanks for answering my question. Sorry I took so long. Yes, I do play solatarie alot. Will it hurt my computer to leave it the way it is?
The other problem that keeps poping up on front desk when I start is this.
RUNDLL
C:\PROGRA~1WILDTA!1APPS\CDA\XDAENG~1DLL What is this? Will it hurt my computer? It's always something with this computer. How did this happen? barb

it wont hurt anything...its just annoying. the second error message you are getting would appear to be leftovers from a game or a piece of software that was uninstalled or removed by a spyware remover. the Wildtangent reference in the error give it away. Wildtangent is installed along with some freeware or even as drive-by download without your knowledge. you will probably need to edit the registry to remove the message. are you comfortable doing that?

hi again. you must be very smart when it comes to the computer.
I wish I was. I don't feel comfortable messing with the register. I probably would mess up my computer.

try this, it may not fix it but it won't hurt your computer.
Start>Shutdown>Restart in MSDOS mode.
After your machine restarts you'll be at a black screen with a symbol like this: C:\
type scanreg /fix
(make sure you leave a space between the g and the /)
press enter and say OK to any prompts
You can do this.

Okay...I kinda figured that.
Try Start>Settings>Control Panel> Add\Remove Programs and see if WildTangent is listed, then highlight it and choose remove.
Also try downloading the software from this site:
http://www.download.com/3000-2094-10045910.html?legacy=cnet
install it, check for updates then scan your system. Don't be intimidated. You took the time to find this site for help and ran scanreg! I'm impressed  ...you can do this too.
I have afew more things we can try if neither of these fix it.
BTW...your probably going to be amazed how much crap AdAware finds on your machine ;)

Spybot is a very good thing, but with spyware as nasty as it is I run AdAware in conjuction with Spybot.
Double insurance the way I see it..one finds stuff the other doesn't.
Was WildTangent in the list in Add\Remove?

WildTangent is a plugin for online gaming.
Glad that your machine is running better...let's try this:
Start>Run type msconfig go to the Startup tab furthest to the right and post what's running when the machine starts.
