Hi

Here's my problem.... suddenly for no reason, at startup i got this after the windows
98 splash screen came up:

"cannot find a device file that may be needed to run windows or a windows application.
The windows registry or system.ini file refers to this device file, but the device
file no longer exists. If you deleted this file on purpose , try unistalling the
associsted application using its unistall or setup program. if you still want to
use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application
to replace the missing file.
ASPIENUM.VXD
press any key to continue"

Initially pressing any key took me to my 'normal' windows setup.......... however
i searched the internet to try to resolve this startup problem.... & came accross
this process to reinstall the system.ini file or something:

"restart in MSDOS & type:
cd\windows
ren system.ini system.ch"

after doing this i get "duplicate file name or file in use"

which i gather was not the result required.

NOW i still get the missing aspienum.vxd at startup but after "pressing any key to
continue" my computer boots into what looks like safe mode, with no graphics drivers,
no mouse control etc.... basically unusable!!!! Arghhh!

So i'm seriously hoping someone can help me here!!

:-)

Thanks
John

Also i gather it may be a file associated with Adaptec.... so FYI i have adaptec CD Creator/Copier installed...... but have made no changes to it recently (or ever for that matter).

Although this has to do with Win ME it's worth a try:
