In many communications organizations, a managing editor works directly under the publisher. They are generally responsible for the business affairs of the newspaper, stations, internet site, etc. They also have some editorial control although the editor-in-chief has final say. This definition may not apply 100% to Internet.com, so please don't hold me to it. Nonetheless, if Richard is legit, then he definitely has authority.

To give you a point of reference, Neil Cavuto and Brit Hume are the managing editors of Fox News (and the only two guys on that channel with more brains than voice decibels).

I presume freddy got banned for spamming the boards by digging up bunches of posts from 6 years ago and postingnews articles from 1998 in the tech news section continously in a lame attempt to be funny or just get attention ........ who knows.

IMO the ban was justified, though a week seemed a little extreme......

On another note, shouldn't there be some kind of announcement from whoever is in charge about what exactly is going on and how it is going to affect the forums?

Though I'm honestly not surprised either. I never saw anything ever mentioning that the main site would be subscription based prior to it happening. I just showed up one day and got free drivers, then showed up again the next day to see it was a pay site..........

Well hell yes  - gets my vote that would certainly make matters clearer/simpler & reduce the mellodrama around here.. (There's mention of similar ideas from others too on different threads, so it seems a widely held wish) .. however as I just commented on another thread, such a simple & obvious step (btw it was like this many moons ago, where reasons etc were stated) would of course reduce the 'drama quota' & we've got to fill those quota's ain't we ..? :eek2:

.. on which subject maybe when the mysterious 'richard1' makes his promised announcement on Monday (even though as far as I can tell that accounts six months old) matters will become clearer/less 'dramatic' ? but something tells me not to hold my breath while waiting for the drama levels to fall ;)

Good Morning,
I will try and communicate to you more than the last Managing Editor. As I said before, I am the Managing Editor. I have control over the daily operations of WinDrivers and a few other sites, although I have people who I answer to, as in many corporations.

I had originally planned on making the announcement on Monday but Freddy was out of hand and no one was doing anything about it. Next thing you know he's posting the personal e-mail I sent him, which I found personally offensive, under different usernames and using profanity as well. Hence my early arrival. I will still post an announcement some time early next week to inform everyone.

Hopefully we can all work together and build this into a community where people , help each other, laugh and learn a few things. Thanks

Whoa !?! .. hang on a minute, you are the 'ubber mod' & thus its your decision on how/when stuff gets done ?

So its time for me to be Nat King Cole then methinks ..

There may be trouble ahead
But while there's music and moonlight and love and romance
Let's face the music and dance
Before the fiddlers have fled
Before they ask us to pay the bill and while we still have the chance
Let's face the music and dance
Soon we'll be without the moon, humming a different tune and then
There may be teardrops to shed
So while there's moonlight and music and love and romance
Let's face the music and dance

If you don't mind my asking: what has happened to the "last managing editor"?

And yes, freddy was way over the top, and had been banned recently and warned and advised repeatedly by many here, not just mods. What he did was on his shoulders, not anyone elses. In fact, I did report the thread in Comments and Suggestions before your arrival. You showed up then, so what would any other mod need to do about it with you on the scene, sort of speak? Especially considering that you were the "target" of freddy. You had no choice but to do what you did. Sad way for an introduction, too. But, not very surprising.

Rich,

no offense, but our last managing editor did a fine job of communicating with us. maybe it was hardly ever directly, but his message was delivered daily through the mods like Noo Noo who do a fantastic job here for almost nothing but the goodness of their hearts.

With scott at the helm this place felt like it was ours.....the members. With the events of the last two days, it is beginning to feel like it's going to be YOUR place and we are just guests who can easily be ushered out or pushed to the side for spilling wine on the floor, eating too many potato chips, or basically anything at all......

if you didn't want to make an announcement until monday then you should've left the forum operate as it has for the past how many ever years over the weekend. You still could have taken care of freddy through a moderator. When you didn't and just appeared as if from nowhere to punish freddy it opens up this very can of worms we have opened. Ditto for changing the site leaders and stuff. If you didn't want to make an announcement or answer questions until monday, why would you put yourself in a position to have questions even be asked?

the very fact that our most active member / moderator has no idea what is really going on is quite scary to me. Noo should have known about this before anyone else, and should have been aware of the changes that are going to take place before any of the members. Noo is a wonderful mother to her own children but she has also been a wonderful mother to this community for a while now taking more responibility for it than she probably should have and getting all the crap that goes along with that responsibility. for her to not know what is happening (and the other mods too) before the other members is bad form.....and generally a shame.

I'd like to hang around here in the future, but if this is the way we kick off the new era, I have my doubts that this is the kind of place I'd be comfortable in......or sometimes even welcome.

oh well.....that's my .02 ......not that it even matters, because obviously .......
