windows 98 - hangs when not in use after 5 minuites

Hi

I have compaq Armadada M700 Laptop. It has windows 98. If I leave the laptop unattended for 5 minuites . It hangs. Can you please help it is urgent. I have to turn off the laptop by turning it off. when I start agian, it does not start normally

Is it possible that the laptop is going into Standby?
