I am having a problem with an on-line game that I have been playing. I recently purchased a new system, and have been problems attempting to play this game ever since. First, my entire system was shutting down and turning off after approx 10 minutes of playing, without any type of error message. The computer would just lock up for about 10 seconds, and then turn off completely. Now, when I attempt to play I get the error titled SmartHeap Library, and in the body it says 'Out of memory. Free up some memory and click retry.' With three options, Abort, Retry and Ignore. Any idea what is causing this error? I e-mailed the technical support for the game, but they were clueless and lead me in dead ends for both of these issues. Any help would be much appreciated.
My system is an AMD Athlon 64 FX55 with a Gigabyte K8NS-Ultra-939 MB, 1 gig (512 x2) Geil PC 3200 RAM and a 256 nVidia 256 GE Force 5700 LE video card. I am currently running WinXP SP2.
Thanks in advance.

Hello TiCk|ToCk, welcome to WinDrivers.
What is the game you are having the trouble with? This kind of problem with the SmartHeap memory manager is possibly caused by a DLL version conflict. I gather you have no problems with other programs?

Thank you for the welcome. :)
You are correct, I have only experienced the problem while playing the on-line game Dark Age of Camelot. I have tried disabling all start-up programs under the assumption that something was using up all my memory. I have also tried 3 different virus scans in an effort to see if some sort of virus is causing the problem. I have also tried switching out my RAM and video card with another system to see if the hardware has issues. I hav also run the 'sfc /scannow' command through WinXP to see if any of my Windows files were corrupted. So far, nothing has eliminated the problem.
Thanks for your help.

Tick,
I just got the same error last night after logging out of DAOC. I have a pretty similar setup as you. Here is my setup:
MSI K8N Neo2 Plat MS- 7025
Thermaltake 480W PSU
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
ATI Radeon x800
512x2 MB Corsair 3200 Dual DDR PC3200XL
2 160 GB Seagate Sata HDs in Raid 0 config
NEC 16x DVD-RW 3520
MSI 16x DVD rom
Windows XP Home Edition w/Service Pack 2
Thermaltake Tsunami 3000 case
I have been having reoccuring crashing problems with daoc ever since I built this rig. I dont really play other games so not sure if I would get that with anything else. Memtest86 ran for 12 hrs and got one error, not sure if thats enough to consider faulty memory or not. My old comp never crashes with that game.

Welcome to WD forums Sark :).
Have either of you been here ? (http://vnboards.ign.com/Tech_Tavern/b20934/)(an unofficial forum for 'devotees' ) & asked this question ? Smartheap errors are generally 'their end' & come 'usually' from 'iffy programming' (barring what Platypus correctly says earlier about errant install routines overwriting dlls)..

Hmm, this one slipped under my radar...
Apologies to you, TiCk|ToCk if you return to this topic, for not getting back to you.
