Hello everyone, i have seen alot of posts about this and read damn near every one however the fixes posted are not working on my computer.

Here is the story

i was reinstalling my dvd rw drive. once i started it back up i got the BSOD that flashed quickly and then the system rebootes. i had to use my digital camera and take a short movie of it then play back the vid to read the screen
and lo and behold its the same one that has been discussed here over and over again. I have taken the steps using a winxp repair console and have done the following:

first i ran chkdsk and it told me i have 1 or more corrupted areas.
next: chkdsk /r

well lets see, its goses up to 70% then down to 50 again and stalls. (20 minutes now)

I have run fixboot, fixmbr as well and they all say that a new MBR has been created succesfully.

I cannot think for the life of me what the real issue is here. before i reinstalled the dvd,

i had added a second harddrive as slave to the pmaster on primary ide channel

the dvd was to be the slave to a cdrw master on secondary,

any ideas?

Welcome to windrivers robert. If chkdsk won't run, download the diagnostic software from your hard drive manufacturer. It typically runs off a bootable floppy.

it's not unusual for a checkdisk repair to take a lot more than 20 minutes, even if it looks as if it has stalled. let it run for a couple of hours to be sure..it has to rewrite a lot of data..
I agree with the manufacturers diagnostics though..it sounds as if you have a hard drive failing.

(btw..to make it easier to read error messages, right click on my computer, choose properties, choose advanced..choose startup and recovery, and uncheck the automatically restart box..you can do this in safe mode by hitting f8 as the machine boots, if it will let you do so)

Thanks for he tips... i guess you could say that patience is a virture... that i didnt have.. It took about 1 hour for the chkdsk to finish but it did repair the drive and i lost NO data!

I have downloaded the support software from WD as well, just to be on the safe side!

Thanks again
