Windows ME
Pentium III 933MHz
Samsung Synchmaster 712N (17 inch LCD 1280x1024 native res.)
VIA s3g UniChrome IGP CLE266
Bought the new LCD and installed the new drivers that came with the hardware. Later installed a game that ran slow and finally quit with the message:
(not optimum mode recommended mode 1280x1024 60Hz)
Fiddled with LCD refresh rate, reinstallation of game, and resolution. No dice. Visited viarena.com and downloaded drivers appropriate for my graphics driver. Installed them.
Now the game works well but the desktop is larger than the screen area and scrolls when you hit the bottom or right edge. At present I am running on the recommended video drivers for my chipset series.
Display->Settings->Advanced->S3Display thinks that I am running an LCD with panel type 1024x768 TFT, but gives no option to change it. Why does my computer not recognize the native res. of the monitor? It only works "normally" if I take it down to 1024x768.
