Old dvd player and copied dvds??

Good Day to all!

I bought my computer in 1998 with a DVD player on it. I've done lots of upgrading to my cpu so it's not like i'm using an ancient machine, but i never upgraded my dvd/cd rom because it works fine.......A friend at work let me hold some dvd's she had copied. Actually we were watching one during lunch break so I know it works. When i put it in my cpu dvd player it does nothing. Then i put a regular dvd in and it plays. I click on drive e (my dvd/cd rom drive) and it says no disk/retry. I can't afford a new dvd player right now i'm in college. Is there any program I can download that can allow my dvd player to read copied dvd's? Or is there anything else that could be causing this problem? Any help or advice would be appreciated. My dvd drive is a mats--ta dvd rom sr 8582 and i'm using CyberLink PowerDVD I've heard something about some dvd drives are + and won't play - and vice versa. I don't know what my dvd drive is and what the dvd is (+ or -) With all the downloads, rippers, tweaks, etc... i hope there is something that i can download to allow me to play copied dvds. thanks and good day

Unlikely that I know of.
It is just old enuff it doesnt see some burned dvd's

DVD-5 is an acronym that means a DVD disc that is one-sided single-layer disc
and can contain upto 4.38 gigabytes of data on it.
DVD-9 can hold approximately 7.95 gigabytes of data, even though marketers like to use the 8.5GB value instead, but this is misleading and is calculated by using so-called "Japanese gigabytes" which means that gigabyte is calculated as 1,000 megabytes, but in real computer terminology, gigabyte is 1,024 megabytes.
DVD-10 means a two-sided DVD disc that hold single data layer on both sides.

In essense it does not read DVD-/+R disks so a newer drive is the only option unless an updated firmaware has been written to include these which is unlikely.
