Display device/driver

I recently had to re-format and lost my display device and driver.

I had downloaded the original from SiS as a zip file.

Can sombody please tell this idiot how to instal the file.

Any help appreciated

Hello Paul, welcome to WinDrivers. If you've found the driver download you're ahead of many others who come for help!

I don't know if you have been able to unzip the file you have. If not, depending on what Operating System you're using, you may be able to double-click on the zip file and extract its contents to a folder, or for older OSs, you may need to install a zip manager like WinZip.

A number of files will be extracted from the zip, if one of them is a SETUP or INSTALL file you can run, usually all you need to do is double-click on it and follow any instructions. There may also be a README file containing instructions or other useful information.

If there is no setup program, then you'll need to do the installation through the display Properties, this procedure will vary slightly between Windows versions, but I'll give the Win98 version as that's what I'm on at the moment, others will be somewhat similar:

Right-click on the desktop, select Properties, then press the Advanced button on the Settings tab. Select Adaptor, then Change, choose Search then the option "Display a list..." You can then navigate to the folder where the extracted driver files are and install them.

If you're using an OS that sets user privileges like XP, be logged on as administrator to install drivers.

If you get stuck or need more info, post back with more details of your system, and someone will assist.

Platypus:
I did download and when the file was unzipped it obviously gave me all the folders. It did include an instal but when I used that it installed some of the files but dxdiag shows that I still do not have a device or driver installed on the system.
I have the driver file downloaded again ready to unzip. Do I need to unzip to any particular folder?

It shouldn't matter what folder is used, the default \unzipped... would be OK, or any alternative you prefer.

Is the driver file you downloaded designated specifically for WinXP?

I have had mercifully little experience with SiS video chips myself :p , perhaps if you gave details of the system (SiS chipset, video card or motherboard if on-board video) and the file you downloaded, someone may know if there's a trick to it or any incompatability etc.
