hey...
what about the video processor in the 6600 and 6800 cards..according to the table in nvidia not all cards have the same abilities as far as video playback is concerned (PureVideo)
from nVidia:
Geforce 6800 Ultra:
MPEG-2: SD/HD hardware accelerated decode and display processing.
WMV9: SD/HD display processing including Gamma Correction and Color Space Conversion
Geforce 6600 GT:
MPEG-2: SD/HD hardware accelerated decode and display processing.
WMV9: SD/HD hardware accelerated decode and display processing.
So for playing Videos (Mpeg4, WMV)..6600 is better than 6800 ??

You can play video on all new cards today, some just have a few ways to making them look better or so. The 6800 takes you into a new performance spec. So decide on a budget or what exactly you want to use the pc for, you've mentioned in a related thread that you want to concerntrate on the 6600.

Yeah .. with a hell of a difference in how much strain it puts on all the rest of your hardware !
Whats mentioned as different looks like it'll be important with anything that does 'post processing' & mostly stuff that does that is compressed video streams('stuff' in a dvd standalone to sort this out, but not in a pc), which you either make or aquire generally from different sources & formats (which wouldn't need so much 'post processing' if you left them in a 'more native' pc format) & of course games !
So in answer to "for playing Videos (Mpeg4, WMV)..6600 is better than 6800 ??" - yup it looks that way ;)

confus-ed ..thanks for the input.
a few more questions...
1. will the card work in an AGP x4 ???
2. in order to activate PureVideo...is the nvidia dvd decoder needed or is it activated automatically by hardware ???..
thanks !!

All I can find is PCI express versions of the card & This (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/08/12/nvidia_6600_gt/) seems to think that's all there ever will be..
2. in order to activate PureVideo...is the nvidia dvd decoder needed or is it activated automatically by hardware ???..
Nvidia dvd decoder is a software player, so that would activate any hardware acceleration found on any card fitted whenever it encounters info that can be directly handled by the video hardware rather than letting your cpu do the work

6800 GT and Ultra and 6600 GT are available in AGP. This is from MSI (a vendor of the actual cards - nVidia only makes the chips): http://www.msicomputer.com/product/images/comparison/VGA.pdf Gives a good feature comparison.

AGP cards are still being made for all chips, just like hudsonsmith has pointed out. PCI-EXPRESS is only appearing on a few select cards, they are treading carefully atm.
And just to clarify, better check what motherboard voltage setting is on for your AGP 4x slot. New cards have a different voltage than older ones. Just mention your Mobo, and we can check.

I should know better than to believe anything 100% found on 'the register' shouldn't I ? (I'm always telling others not to !) Sorry ! I stopped googling once I'd found that - my bad !
Errr Techz what are you on about with this ?
..better check what motherboard voltage setting is on for your AGP 4x slot. New cards have a different voltage than older ones.
The 'x' (times) bit is nothing to do with the price of fish really ! What you need to be concerned with voltage wise is which agp standard you have - AGP 1.0, AGP 2.0, AGP 3.0 & AGP Pro ..
More about that here (http://www.pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/AGP.htm#agpcompatibility)

I get that, but usually only when I'm trying to explain one of my mad ideas in comments & suggestions ! ;) :D

well my mobo is intel D850MV.
according to sisoft sandra the AGP is version 2.0..
that helps ??...
and again, is there a 256MB AGP version of the 6600 and if not...what to expect..i mean the card will performe not so good in what areas ????

yes i answered you that in your other thread. there is a 256 mb version. It will be better than the 128mb versions.
