I have an HP Scanjet 3P (SCSI), and have just installed the Deskscan software. However, only black and white options appear. I can't find anything on the 3P's capabilities. Is it supposed to scan in color or is this a software problem?

Hi,

You didn't mention which OS you're running. Anyway, you might check HP site below for the latest drivers:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/sj3ppc_swen.html

Also, on the left hand side of that page is a link to Features & Specs...you might want to check that out. Since it talks about sending copies out to your B&W or Color printer, I would guess that it should be able to make color copies. There are also several other links for Solving a Problem, etc.

Anyway, Good Luck!

I understand you're trying to save yourself some money by trying to get this old scanner to work but don't forget to factor in frustration factors etc. Microtek (and several other good companies I'm sure) sells an excellent scanner for $59 that will be the hell out of your old scanner in both quality and performance. For myself, I'd probably mess around with the old one and try to get it going again (then donate it to someone before it gives me anymore headaches). But for a customer, they really appreciate it when I tell them they can get a better, faster scanner for less than I will charge them to try (keyword here: try) and fix their old one. I've even sold whole new systems to some of these people who, once started down the path of bigger/faster, decide to upgrade everything...

How right you are, sowulo. Check out BUY.COM's Clearance (http://www.us.buy.com/retail/clearance/subcat.asp?loc=13086) area. I bought an Epson Perfection 636U for next-to-nothing that performs beautifully, even under W2K. Not bad for $60... http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm35.gif
