Inverter for Toshiba PSA20C-02HKQP

Hi,

Does anyone know a good source for new/used laptop parts for Canadian models?

I am looking for an inverter for a Toshiba A20, model number PSA20C-02HKQP.

if you take it to a shop, expect to pay about $40 for the inverter. The install of it should take no more than 15 munites for a certified technician.

What part of canada are you in? I can suggest a few places you can take it to, unless this is something that you definatly want to do yourself.

I am in Vancouver.

I do not have any Toshiba service manuals, so I am not overly keen on taking the beast apart myself. There are few things I cannot fix, though, with or without the service manual. There is a lot less pain with the manual, however.

If the bezel comes apart without dismantling the A20 and if the inverter cables do not need to be unplugged from inside the laptop body, the task is probably not that challenging. If you have to start taking things apart in a major way, ... well.

So about $40 for the inverter. What would we be looking at for a dollar value for "fair" shop time on the job?

I'm not 100% certain about the inverters, but I know the A20 series has 6 different LCD's they used in that model, so I would definitely consider finding a Toshiba authorized shop, to make sure you get the correct inverter.

I'm not sure on the fair price thing, as I do not have a clue what labor rates run in Canada.

I don't know exactly what Compusmart Vancouver will charge you for labour, as all the compusmart stores have different labour rates, but if it was at my store, you would be looking at a $15 labour charge.

Wow - $15 is a cheap labor charge. Nice to see there are still honest shops out there!!

One of the benifits of not having a fixed labour charge. Also a drawback as labout can get expensive for a large job.

Sony notebook depot is $180 labour + parts regardless of what needs to be fixed. So the same job from sony would be $220+ shipping both ways.

Oh, and there is only 4 different LCD models used now. They discontinued the CHIMEI LCD because it would turn white during windows bootup if you disable the LCD display strech. There are only 2 FL inverters available and they are bot interchangable with any of the 4 remaining LCD's

One more thing, the FL inverter is the same one in the A40 and M30 series.

For the suggested Toshiba depots, it is six of one and half a dozen of the other:

$33 for parts and $75 for labour

or

$50 to $80 for parts (won't commit to a quote)
and $40 for labour

Not great but not bad considering that US web prices for inverters (not guaranteed to be for the Canadian model) run about $66 US.
