I have a Emachines M2350 notebook. I went through a nightmare to get the wireless, modem, and graphics to work after upgrading to WinXP Pro Service pack 2. Now I have no sound...this one has me boggled. I have searched and search but no answers to a problem that others share with me. Under Sound, video and game controllers I have the following listed:
ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Standard Game Port (with a yellow exclamation point....this device cannot find enough free resources Code 12)
Video Codecs.
Ok now to my problem....I have no sound through my speakers but I have sound in headphones....I checked all settings...volume control...etc etc
but cannot figure out what is happening. The speakers do work or used to at one time and whats with the standard game port? Was'nt aware my laptop should have one...maybe part of the problem? Dont know what driver to update the sound with ? I'd apprieciate any help anyone could offer...I have seen other posts on the web about this problem with emachines but no solutions. And customer service at Emachines is a joke. Please help

If you have sound through the headphones but not the speakers, it is a hardware problem not a driver problem. Check your bios/cmos settings and buttons/switches on the laptop to see if you have turned off the speakers. Otherwise, it is likely you will need to have it serviced by a technician.
It is doubtful if the gameport is part of the problem, but if you dont use it the easiest solution is to disable it.

My question is why upgrade to pro? if you are not going to utilize the advanced features of pro, then you really don't need it. Home Edition will do what 90% of customers need except for maybe big business or IT. Also if you reinstall the emachines utilities they sometimes go out and look for updates for you. A friend of mine has an emachine laptop that flaked out after SP2 install and emachine had an update out for it. Something to do with the Wireless NIC. Just a thought.

Hello to all having the same problem. This is not a hard fix turns out that windows installs a driver it thinks is right, when in fact is quite wrong. This step by step is only if you have the "ali audio accelerator wdm driver"
STEP 1. go to www.emachines.com search for the audio driver to replace the ALI AUDIO ACCELERATOR WDM DRIVER. Should be a soundmax driver!
STEP 2. restart in safe mode (pressing f8 while until you can choose safe) administrator (also remember what folder you download the driver to.) because as admin. you will have to look through owner folder to find the file if you put it in My Documents.
STEP 3. once up and running open device manager and manually reinstall this driver ie. "install from a list" follow along until u bring up the ali audio, then "i have disk" find driver you downloaded and open 'til you get to the driver and install may take several minutes for sure! IF IT IS SUCCESSFUL MOVE TO STEP 4. IF NOT RESTART AND RETRY.
STEP 4. RESTART AND ENJOY YOUR AUDIO!

I have the SAME problem. Except I can not find the modem driver. Can you link me?
And did you ever get the sound issue worked out?
Oh, and by the same I mean: The pc was upgraded to PRO the code 12 error and I spent hours trying to hunt down drivers.
I sent you a befriend thing. Hopefully I can contact VIA e-mail.
