Hello
I have a Canon BJC-4200 that when turned on moves the carriage back and forth and rather than park it to the cleaning tray moves to the middle. This is with even a good print head. The unit also blinks incessantly after it moves the head to the middle. Does this mean the board is shot or is it much simpler than that?
Thanks
Ken

Hi,

Canon's website belows says that it is not recognizing your ink cartridge:

http://www.expressresponse.com/cgi-bin/progsnp/canon/srchjnnp?search_type=vdocument&search_input=prt0083.htm&session_id=983806891.25542.3&search_erproduct=BJC%2d4200

You might want to double-check that you have removed all of the shipping material, tapes, etc. off of the cartidge before inserting.

Hope this helps you out...Good Luck!

Don
I actually used a known good cartridge and upon powering on the unit I heard a beep after the cartridge parked itself on the cleaning pad then moved to the middle of the carriage rod. I saw Canon's FAQ and swabbed the contacts to no avail on both the cart and holder.
Thanks
Ken

You say you used a known good cartridge but did you change the whole BC21e assembly or just the ink tanks?

The Cannon inkjets use a two part print head. Sounds like it could be the print head portion of the BC21e.

If none of the above suggestions help you out, then it sounds like you've got a hardware failure. You can try d**king with it if you'd like but it sounds like it's about time for deep-sixing it. You might be lucky and find a Canon authorized service provider near you or you might start thinking about another, newer printer. The price of BubbleJets and DeskJets have really come down.

Anyway, Good Luck!

Ok, I am all doped up on cold medicine so please bear with me.

You said the ink cariage is in the center, which is where it should be when the door is opened. Where does it go when you power the printer off? Have you checked for a paperjam? Doesnt have to be much, just a corner. Have you unplugged the printer from the wall and replug it in? Forgive my ignorance but do you have to go into "printer properties" and tell the printer that it has a new cartrage?

DonJ is probably right about there being a hardware failure. The 4000 series has been known to have problems. I would recommend a new printer. It would be more cost effective then sending this one in.

Just a few thoughts. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm5.gif
