So...the other day I had some issues with spyware/adware. After I finally got it all removed, my sound wasn't working. It's not my speakers, so something's going on with my comp. When I try to control the volume with my keyboard, the display on my comp shows that the volume is at 0 and it will not go up at all. It is on permanent mute. I don't know much about soundcards, etc., but do you think you can give me a hand. If you need any information, please let me know. Thanks so much.

And you're sure you simply don't just have the volume control muted?

Check your sound settings, depending on the version of windows, you should have a speaker down in the bottom right corner of the screen (by the clock) that you can double-click to check sound settings.

Whenever I try to unmute it, it just says "mute on" and when I try to turn up the volume it's stuck at 0. There is no clock by the time. Also, when I go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Volume Control it says that ther are no active mixer devices installed. Thanks for the help!!!

OK, I always like to check the basics first. Now check your device manager, see if there are any devices with a ! or ? listed.

No !'s or ?'s. I did also find that when I went to Control Panel>Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices>Sound and Aduio Devices, in the Volune tab it says there is no audio device and thus the volume is at 0 and I cannot change it.

OK, then I'd say its time to find out what audio device you have and reload drivers. Do you know the make/model of your sound card?

You can get the drivers here (http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/) by picking your make, model and OS.
