Hi lancsman,
Welcome to WinDrivers!
Yeah, no problem with the double posting. Just don't let it happen again. ;) I've gone ahead and "merged" the two threads.
Concerning your sound prob, I take it you're using WinXP?!?
How do things look in Device Manager? Any yellow exclamation marks or conflicts?
What is the model/manufacturer of your PC?
Did you download your driver from here?

Just a couple of suggestions. Let us know how it ends up.

you said a couple of weeks ago - did you wait to install Win XP SP2, and then the April 15th deadline passed and your computer automatically updated i, or did you manually update it / install it recently as well?
Just a thought - I know that SP2 broke sound on Toshiba laptops, and some other computer types that I cannot recall off the top of my head as well...
