I am not able to open any html help (.chm) file on my computer. Because of that I am not able to use HELP and support of windows, Internet explorer, MSDN etc. I heard about related virusesand scaned for them and also updated with SP2, but still the problem persists.
Also the error comes in HHCTRL.OCX, so I tried reregistering the file but didn't help.

Try this: MJ's Help Diagnostics (http://helpware.net/downloads/MJsDiag.zip)
Description:
MJ's Diagnostics is a small utility that reports if all the HTML Help runtime DLLs are installed and registered correctly. If a DLL is not registered then it will ask if you want to register it. It also checks the RoboHelp DLL (HHActiveX.dll) and MS Help 2 DLLs.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your prompt response.
I did run MJ's diagnostics, it has shown that everyhting is fine.
I finally found the solution after so many days.
I read somewher on net that performance of HHCTRL.OCX depends on some of the IE Components, so I used a small tool called "IEFix" to reinstall IE and miracle; everything is back on track now.
I suspect some of software I tried recently led to this problem, since I had smae problem on my other PC. I am trying to find out, which software caused it.
