Printer is connected via USB, randomly gives an error saying that it cannot communicate with the printer! Only way to print after that is to unplug the printer and restart. I have no clue as to what can be causing the problem, running this printer on almost the exact same hardware but Win98SE is the OS... of course my one explanation is that its just WinME's fault.
Also - did download latest drivers for printer.

Just a question...

Is the printer hooked up directly to the USB port or is it going though something else, such as a keyboard? If it's going through the keyboard, that could be causing bi-directional communication problems. I know that HP highly recommends against going through an USB keyboard or even an USB port hub...especially, using their all-in-one OfficeJets.

Anyway, just an idea...

Let us know what ends up working for you...Good Luck!

Nope! connected directly to the motherboard, onboard USB (Asus A7V motherboard)
I've got the latest 4-1 driver installed, or at least within the last couple, I think it might be 4.30 or something.
Like I said, the problem is random, though what I didn't say is that sometimes it just occurs right in the middle of printing, sometimes it doesn't even let you print it.
Right now I've switched printer (I've got two of them, on running on a Win98Se system, this one on a WinME) with my other one, cable and all, and trying on the other machine to see if I get the error.

I had a Z52 on ME do that to me every once in awhile. Reinstalled drivers a couple of times. Problem went away...

My 2 cents .... <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

USB on Lexmark printers is a bit funny, try different cables, do not connect to an unpowered hub. This causes all sorts of grief. Try the latest set of drivers from http://drivers.lexmark.com/drivers.nsf. If none of this works, then un-install the printer software, remove all references to lexmark in the registry (they are all under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Lexmark) Remove all entries and folders, this should solve your problem.

Okay I'll try that.

Printer gave the error finally under Win98SE, so its not just Win ME causing the problem. I've got to pickup another USB cable and I'll try that.
