I was trying to help my dad fix an error which kept on popping up after her closes internet explorer.
Finding no way, I tried reinstalling xp.
After that, I discovered that I cannot create a connection to the internet as the original connection had been wiped out. So I tried to create a new one to discover that I cannot as when I tried to use the option modem connection, it won't let me as it is in grey so I cannot click it.
Following this I tried to install all the extra components of XP to no avail but to discover a great lag had settled on the computer.
The system won't read any Cds so I went to msconfig and set it to boot permanently in safe mode for now.
I then tried to reinstall windows xp professional.
After installing half way, it told me that I cannot install it in safe mode and hence would restart. This results in a vicious circle as it is continously discovering that I'm in safe mode and hence would restart. I now can't access windows at all as it just keep on restarting and restarting.

the problem is that whenever I open the comp, it says, restarting setup...
then it enters the computer in safe mode and a message pops up before anything else and says setup cannot be completed in safe mode, computer must restart. after clicking ok, the only option, it does just that, restarts, and the process repeats itself.
PLS HELP ME!!! dad's not too happy

Number One .....change the boot sequence to start from Cd rom drive and continue the setup from there or do a repair install.

Number two .........your modem was greyed out more than likely because the correct XP modem driver was not installed and the system was probably slow due to motherboard drivers not being installed.

Use a program like everest after installing XP to see what drivers need to be loaded. http://www.lavalys.com is the web address to download everest.
