I recently bought a new hard drive for my notebook, however I don't know what to do to transfer all of my my files from my old hard drive to my new one. Also, how do I install Windows XP (i have the cd) on the new hard drive. Also is a total of 192mb ram enough to have the comp running on xp, or should i downgrade to windows me or 2000? ANY ADVIDE OR KNOWLEDGE ON THE SUBJECT WOULD BE AMAZING!!!!

OK, first of all, if you're installing XP fresh on the new drive, you'll only want to pull data off the old drive, instead of copying the entire drive. To do this, you need to copy it to somewhere else first, (since its a laptop, you can't have 2 internal drives installed at once). I would suggest backing it up to a cd (if you have a burner), floppies, a network drive, etc.

Once the data is backed up, physically install the new drive, then boot to the XP cd, run through the install process, get all drivers, updates, virus scans and other apps installed, and then copy your data back down to the new drive.

As far as RAM, 256MB or more would be better, but 192MB will run XP decently. (Depending on what all you are planning on doing with it of course).

Good luck!

Never heard of that, and I have formatted my share of Toshiba laptops.
