I have only once been able to print a test message from Dell 4300 to Canon IP6000d. I have tried the 2 USB ports in the back of the computer and the one in the front, but every time I try to print the system aborts (dreaded blue screen) and the system goes into a restart. I am running Windows 2000 professional. THe one time I was able to get a message through, I turned the printer off and received a message that the printer was off. I turned the printer on and the test message went through. I know it is not the printer , because my son was able to print from his newer Dell computer. The Canon Tech rep (who spent an hour with me) said call Dell. I contacted Dell and was in 2 different Echats and got nowhere. Idon't think the tech reps (I think from India) knew what was going on. The other thing that seems strange is the system does not seem to rcoginize that I loaded the Canon drivers. It wants to load the new hardware drivers. The Canon Tech said I should cancel. The last time I tried I went through with the system requesting a load and received the followin g message"The installation failed because a Functional Driver was not specified for this device" . The Canon driver was loaded in the appropriate drive.Please help I'm at my wits end.

I take it you've already been to Canon's website for your IP6000D. (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadSearchResultsAct&keyword=IP6000d&Submit.x=30&Submit.y=7)
There are several User's Guides available as well as an interactive troubleshooting guide, as well as v1.80 Printer Driver for Windows 2000. Is this the version that you're trying to use?
Also, how do things look in Device Manager? Any exclamation marks? It shouldn't matter which USB port you use. Most USB devices like for the drivers/software to be properly loaded up first before you even hook up the printer. You might try Removing or Uninstalling the software for that device and try starting fresh.

hi,
this happens because the USB printing support is not getting installed for the printer. please open the device manager and u will find an entry for ur printer with an !. right click, click properties and go to the driver tab and select update driver button. choose the second option in the wizard, that says "choose the driver from a list" or something to that effect. select printers from the list. u may find more than 1 USB printing support entries. try one of them, if u getan error, then run the update wizard again and try the other USB printing support entries until one of them gets installed. u may need to verify that the icon for the printer is on the USB virtual printer port after u install this USB printing support before u go ahead and print something.
