Pavilion N5490 - cant change resolution

I bought a HP Pavilion N5490 in 2001, as an open box. I didnt receive a recovery cd or any other software or documentation with it, only my Best Buy receipt. The hard drive has been formatted and a retail version of WinMe installed.... NOW... I can't change from 16 colors or change my resolution! (My only options, 16 colors and 640x480). :sad:
This is what I know:

Graphic Card: S3 Savage IX
Chip ID: 8C12
Chip Name: Savage IX w/MV

From the reading I've been doing, it appears I need a display/video adapter. Any of you have any idea what adapters I need and where do I find them?
