Spyware Doctor

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this free anti-spyware program, Spyware-Doctor. It is new to me anyway. Seems to be effective.

It does not replace other tools but it does pickup things that other tools miss (and vice versa). Add it to the Adaware/Spybot arsenal.

Free? at the bottom of that page it says

Download the latest version of Spyware Doctor and scan your PC for thousands of spyware, adware, and malware threats. Please note the trial version is limited to scan only.
and the regular version is 29.95
It is, however a reputable and tested program at the spyware warrior site

Hmmm... not free?

I got mine from Download.com, which advertised it as freeware.

I have had my copy installed for a couple of months, version 3.2.1.359. It has removed a number of spyware instances that Adaware and Spybot have missed. Either PC Tools has changed their distribution status from freeware to demo-only crippleware or scan-only means no realtime TSR protection rather than "no actual spyware removal."

Ewido, another good anti-spyware app, is scan only in its freeware mode -- that is no realtime protection. However, it still removes spyware it finds.

My experience with this product is that it finds spyware on a clean PC (what we call false positives).

Just because someone in a forum labeled something as a false positive, doesnt mean that it is. linking to a 2004 version of the program does not have too much value today here is the link to reputable antispyware programs (http://spywarewarrior.com/asw-features.htm) from spywarewarrior.com..probably the most functional guide to false positives and fake programs around...(oh..and btw..WE call them false positives as well...) as a matter of fact, spyware warrior's newsletter promoted spyware doctor as a good program now, and offered a discount for newsletter recipients and members recently

Our results show that both AntiSpyware and CounterSpy remain top choices, while Spyware Doctor has promise but needs some fine-tuning.

No word there about false positives..either this app or counterspy are good choices for people that do not have WIN XP, since the free microsoft antispyware does not run on anything less than XP

Spyware Doctor may or may not be effective at removing spyware, but I wouldn't recommend its use on 98 or ME ... takes 25% off system resources ! I've had to remove it for customers with older boxes. By the time you have antivirus, firewall and this running you're booting at less than 60% system resources. If you have the usual startup junk loading as well, it makes for a machine that can barely boot at all.

odd..I've never had that problem on any of the 15+ win98se machines I've installed it on..

The problem boxes I saw were late last year ... maybe there's a newer version out now.
