Access Point Question

I have a large warehouse with 6 APs. I have them all set to the same SSID, but should I have them set to the same channel or different channels? Thanks!

If they are the same wireless network, then same channel. First check if any nearby network are present and check the channel they are using, then use a different one to theirs.

That's the way I have it set up, but I've been having some issues with my wireless Symbol scanners and slow communications, so I wanted to make sure I did it right. Thanks TechZ!

If its a warehouse, thats a large area? Maybe you need to see if there is some interferace by machinery if any?

I started about 6 months ago, the 1st IT guy they have ever had. There existing wireless network was always a bit flaky. They had old Symbol and other brands of slow APs, so I put in new ones and configured them to a different SSID. The scanners were reloaded with the new software, which took up almost all the memory they have, and I changed the SSID as well. I can ping the scanners fine, but on beefer transactions they sometimes time out or "loose" connection. I have no idea how to see if there is any interference from the machinery though.

Could you give us more details as to the network, the hardware, software, what kind of distances were talking?

Multiple access points can be used on the same LAN, provided they are attached to the same hubs or switches that are connected by Cat 5 Ethernet cable.

The channel for each access point should be unique, within the range of 1-11 for North America. This allows up to 11 access points to be set up on one LAN. It is recommended to go in increments of three to the next closest access point:

Example: 3 - 6 – 11

The SSID should be the same for all the units on the LAN
