That's all very well if he actually has a card made by AverMedia, this brooktree chipset is very common across a range of 'no-name' tv cards (i've got one by pacer no longer supported) ,finding support though for individual devices with slightly differing features can be very tricky though, & then you need some s/w to actually use it, perhaps try this ;- 'ChrisTV' (http://http://www.chris-tv.com/download.html) which has both freeware ('chris TV lite') & commercial versions (don't get fooled by the download pages, its{the free version} there 'somewhere', but the site has recently 'gone all commercial' ;)), which I've used sucessfully on a whole host of these cards :)

Having said all of that, a new tv card (with probably a better chipset capable of better capture) complete with software, is probably gonna pan out cheaper than paying for 'extra' s/w ..(but I always seem to have gotten away with using the 'lite version' which includes drivers for 9x & xp)

these cards are manufactured by several companys the link posted utilizes that particular set. Bt878
