Garak October 12th, 2005, 05:39 AM So I tought I'd post :D I'm currently job searching while listening to Pink Floyd, what is everyone else doing? TechZ October 12th, 2005, 06:03 AM Looking for employment myself as it happens. Planning on starting my MBA course in January 2006. Cleaning up the laptop too :p Garak October 12th, 2005, 06:07 AM laptops... hmmmm not my favourite word right now.... Platypus October 12th, 2005, 07:39 AM I've just decided to check the site before heading for bed after a long, busy day. It's been flat out at work lately. Garak October 12th, 2005, 09:53 AM I've just decided to check the site before heading for bed after a long, busy day. It's been flat out at work lately. oohooh - get me a job :D El_Squid October 12th, 2005, 09:57 AM Here in Okieland, I've been having fun chasing down the documentation proving whether, or not, my section resolved the recommendations of an internal audit done on our Purchasing Department way back in 2000. I have become nothing but a paper pusher, since my last promotion. God, how I long for the days when I was a programmer. Platypus October 12th, 2005, 10:03 AM oohooh - get me a job :D Prepared to commute? :) NooNoo October 12th, 2005, 11:22 AM hmmm considering flattening my lappie and turning it into a portable oracle box. Why is it that I cannot get a nice easy job like the tech in my uni has???? He didn't know how to change the target drive for my documents in 2k, nor did he know about how to change the templates folder in word, he looks after the oracle server - how come he doesn't know about init.ora? I spent 30 minutes sorting out cosmetic things that he didn't know how to do (mostly reg changes or shortcuts to valid places etc) and then he says he will reimage all the machines???? WTF? why???? just merge a freaking reg file with the changes....update the image by all means, but all of the changes done manually would take me less time than reimaging a machine.....oh and they have never heard of multicasting so the boot each machine with a floppy one at a time and install the image from a mapped drive.... push from server.... what's that he said AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH HHHH confus-ed October 12th, 2005, 12:03 PM Why is it that I cannot get a nice easy job like the tech in my uni has???? .. AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH HHHH You must learn that the bits that fit between this question & that answer have a great deal to do with re-colouring your nose ! confus-ed October 12th, 2005, 12:08 PM .. but oh yeah what have I been up to ? Err not much, chasing (very un-sucessfully I might add), various "f'ers" who seem to think my cash flow is theirs , so far I've had a whole host of unbelievable reasons, but the star prize, goes to a bloke who almost literally lives up a mountain, who told me he'd had a flood ! Why can't I lie like that ? Maybe then I could get a cushy network techies job ! :thumbs2: NooNoo October 12th, 2005, 12:12 PM  You must learn that the bits that fit between this question & that answer have a great deal to do with re-colouring your nose ! huh? amyb October 12th, 2005, 12:34 PM I am at work, working on a bulletin. I am getting ready to leave in 15 minutes to look for a new car (either a minivan or a hybrid), needs to be a bigger car to lug around two labs(DOGS), a son and a hubby. TripleRLtd October 12th, 2005, 12:56 PM  huh? I think -ed was referring to "brown nosing". But, that may not be necessary. Why don't you just help the current uni tech out with his job, sort of like volunteering (like you do here), and not just making him or her seem like a joke. After a while, the "powers that be" will indeed notice, and soon that "cushy" job may just be yours. Colleges really like those that volunteer at first. That is how I got my lead tech job at a college many moons ago, after all. Good luck on the vehicle search Ames. I have a mini van for sale, btw. I just bought a compact Pontiac Vibe that gets over 30 mpg, as I didn't need all that space any longer. Gas prices are a killer nowadays. This little Vibe carries lots of cargo when needed and it's fun to drive. It's the same as a Toyota Matrix, give it a look. :thumbs2: NooNoo October 12th, 2005, 01:12 PM He gets $40 an hour to sit on his *** and reset passwords - help him?? He won't be taught anything, I would just end up doing it all and him still being paid $40 an hour. I post here because (for the most part) people learn, not because I want to do other people's jobs for them. Atodini October 12th, 2005, 02:37 PM .. but oh yeah what have I been up to ? chasing (very un-sucessfully I might add), various "f'ers" who seem to think my cash flow is theirs You too! Otherwise listening to Harry Chapin, writing stern letters (see above) and waiting for the footie to kick off! I have a less helpful attitude now to people who won't listen than I used to. Whether they be clients or fellow techs. That is a better thing for me and I believe a better thing for them in the end. emr confus-ed October 12th, 2005, 03:03 PM writing stern letters (see above) Only stern letters ? .. I think I might have to borrow that lump hammer of yours ! Sadly though bad debt/late payers are a constant 'pita' for me, & I guess every small business, they have no pride :( !, I hate owing anybody anything, as I know how tough it can be, when folks don't pay up like they promised. & thanks for reminding me about Football, I nearly missed kick off ! (still nil-nil 20 minutes later when I eventually pressed return on this reply !) Garak October 12th, 2005, 07:31 PM Prepared to commute? :) Hell, I'd move :P Garak October 12th, 2005, 07:34 PM currently, I'm listening to Jim Steinman. While trying not to beat this MEDION around my room...... BTW, anyone like my sig or is it a touch much? TripleRLtd October 13th, 2005, 12:08 AM Yeah, it's a bit much Gary, but that's just my op. But, for beginners it should be helpful. So, what happened to your business? Sorry that I don't know. But, what happened? I thought everything was good with you and yours. btw: currently I am watching "Ray" again. DAMN!!! What a movie!!!:thumbs2: Garak October 13th, 2005, 02:23 AM Yeah, it's a bit much Gary, but that's just my op. What a movie!!!:thumbs2: Well, basically -alot of things, money dried up, work stopped, couldnt afford to advertise so i got out before I waskicked out, then it got worse. Then in came everyone who I owed or just about and now I'm just looking for work to get me trough the next year or two. Without much luck I might add. Oh well, another year is almost over :P confus-ed October 13th, 2005, 05:19 AM BTW, anyone like my sig or is it a touch much? Too much, they made you a mod for a reason, use the stickies Luke, use the stickies .. (that's wrong somehow :D, but I'm sure you understand ;)) Garak October 13th, 2005, 09:26 AM Too much, they made you a mod for a reason, use the stickies Luke, use the stickies .. (that's wrong somehow :D, but I'm sure you understand ;)) ah - but they made me a mod of motherboards.. not hard drives :P But I will be putting some stickies up in the motherboard section very very soon *I can feel a headache coming on* Platypus October 13th, 2005, 10:10 AM Hell, I'd move :P Might be a plan... TripleRLtd October 14th, 2005, 11:55 AM Well, basically -alot of things, money dried up, work stopped, couldnt afford to advertise so i got out before I waskicked out, then it got worse. Oh well, another year is almost over :P Bummer Gar. My last year hasn't been as profitable either, what with two months lost to a hurricane and several months raising several children for a lousy mom (they are back with mom now, and she is supposed to be getting "better"...we'll see). Things are picking up again though. On top of that, the pc tech business is so changed now that low cost pc's are a way of life. Big Industry is taking its toll on us little guys. Everyone around my area has lowered their service fees, and some have changed to what I started doing over a year ago: FLAT fees, not hourly. It is different with business networks though...they will get charged more. ;) Yeah, it's tougher now. I do wish you the best in your job search! What type of job are you looking for? Bench tech or IT networking or what? windrivers.com
