Multimedia audio controller

this is a issue that has been slamming me against the walls. My computer wont reckonize my camera. its a Sony TRV-480. before i got this camera my system worked fine to capture with my other camera. I hook up the camera to my computer through the firewire like any other time. It comes up as a multimedia audio controller. now the camera wont work on any other computer. and my firewire card wont accept any other cameras. i've tried multiple things in order to reslove this issue. has any one encountered any thing like this??

First question, do you have the software cd that came with the camera that the mannual (http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=DCRTRV480) mentions ?

There are a number of enumeration problems with cameras... to help we need the following info:
Motherboard make/model
Firewire - is it onboard or separate?
If separate - what chipset and make/model?
What windows?
What service pack level?
What other updates have been applied?
Do you have an analogue capture of any description already? (webcam, tv card)
Exactly what procedure do you use to plug in the camera to the firewire?
