When I use MGI Photosuite SE the computer freezes. I am running win98Se. The only thing I can do is to reboot the computer. Any ideas. Draggar January 30th, 2002, 08:12 PM I would say uninstall that software package, and the scanner files. If the scanner is USB, disconnect it. Go into the device manager (right click the MY COMPUTER icon, select properties, then click on the device manager tab). Make sure the scanner isn't listed in there. (If it is, highlight it and remove, uninstall any files the computer asks you too). Reboot your computer. Go to the manufacturer's web site, download the latest drivers (make sure they're compatable with the version of Windows you're using. Then install them, if the extra software is included, install that. Reboot the computer if the installation program does not do it itself. (Again, if the scanner is USB), connect the scanner. Let the computer detect the scanner, install a few files, then reboot (yes, again). Try it then. If it still locks up, there may be a conflict that your PC is loading up. Click on Start-RUN and type in MSCONFIG. Go to the startup tab, and uncheck everything. Reboot (yes, again :) ) Load up the scanner programs via the start menu (Start-Programs-ScannerStuff-etc... and try it then. It should work by now. If you want to, start adding in the Startup items in the MSCONFIG if you'd like (I'd say leave them out unless there is something in there you need 100% of the time). You might also want to go to Microsofts website and update your version of windows. Other things you might want to check - your IRQs. (Start-Programs-Accessories-System Utilities-System Configuration (is that right, guys?). See if your scanner or USB port is sharing an IRQ with something else you use all the time, like a network card, or video card. Hope this helps! DonJ January 31st, 2002, 09:08 AM Try going here: <a href="http://www.artecusa.com/service.htm" target="_blank">http://www.artecusa.com/service.htm</a> Notice the links there for Drivers, User's Manuals, and Software Updates. Follow all of them. If you don't have your User's Manual, download it first. It should list detailed installation instructions. Also, I noticed that the MCI Photosuite Update link appears to be a dead link...no usefule info. If you think that program is the problem, try Uninstalling that software and then reinstall...just an idea. If that still doesn't work, you might try downloading the WordLinx OCR software from <a href="http://www.artecusa.com/Software&updates.htm" target="_blank">http://www.artecusa.com/Software&updates.htm</a> Let us know how it goes...Good Luck! freddy February 1st, 2002, 06:05 PM one thing not mentioned so far is: what spec is the machine? are u trying to scan in a large DPI ? try lowering it to perhaps 300dpi , have u got enough memory to do the scan? ,have u got enough disk spce left for the image? you could also try microsoft imageing , bit crap but it does work. windrivers.com
