Well, there's another monster hurricane out there at this very moment, and its official track as of Wed is directly on line with where Charley hit last year...in other words, RIGHT AT ME!!!
Of course, Wilma needs to traverse the entire Gulf before it makes landfall, and the cone covers almost all of Florida, but....

Aye. It is indeed a great deal of advance warning. Which is why most of SW Florida, besides the Keys, have decided to wait until later today or tomorrow to decide upon what emergency action to take. Heck, the 'cane hasn't even made a right turn into the Gulf as of yet.
I will wait to make my decision, and I MUST get gas today. Yesterday all the stations were packed with long lines or out of gas completely as the panic started. I have several gas cans filled already for my generator, and I have plenty of water and canned food and batteries, and the various necessites required for a hurricane kit. In other words, thanks to last year, I am quite prepared. BUT: I shall be watching this thing very closely. Yes Ferrit, I agree that I got lucky last year, although the damage to my property can't be called luck, per se. Most of all I remember being really scared...and I will NOT go through a Cat 4 again. My best friend (remember Super Bob Gaz?) recently moved up to South Carolina and I've got an open invite...but I do need to get gas today.

Invest in a good surf board, wait for hurricane to get close, then head to water for some really big waves. lol Actually, I think if you been lucky once, then get outta there before luck runs out.
And by the way, If you decide to stay, remember what they all say, its Not nice to fool with mother nature. Good Luck and stay safe.

The best of luck to you, Triple. If you decide to ride it out, hunker down and anchor everything down. But, don't wait to the last hour to get out; it would be heck of a lot worse to ride the storm out in a massive traffic jam. (I don't imagine there a lot of basements in Florida.)

LOL. But, the younger Bush is way ahead of the feds. A (edit) "state of emergency" has already been declared so that everything at the State and Local level is at the ready. The calamity that was Louisiana and Mississippi will not happen in Florida. In fact, many locales practice the Florida approach to Hurricane preeparedness, as they should...we've had plenty of practice. ;)
Plus, as it stands now, it might not hit until Monday since it's slowed down so much. So many events from tomorrow (friday) through the weekend have been cancelled or rescheduled already, they may have jumped the gun this time. That is what I call being extremely proactive.
I got my full tank of gas now though.

Well, we're not leaving at the moment, as Wilma now seems to be moving about as fast as a fat kind on the way to gym class. We'll wait until Saturday to make the decision. Besides, I'm helping my mate from work move ito his new house this afternoon :P

Right, it may be the end of next week now before we know what this thing is going to do.
How ya been 'ski? Super Bob met a woman and moved to SCarolina, so now I need another golfer.
Are we going to Octoberfest again this year? Last year was quite memorable. ;) It's this weekend and next...that is unless Wilma continues to just sit there laughing at us. :drink:

Yeah, but it is now still pounding Cancun/Yucatan, Mexico (poor folks  ) and hasn't even hit the Gulf yet. This whole state is taking a wait and see attitude at the moment.

Appreciate the concern though. We will have a few days before it hits here, when we finally know where it is heading. When I first posted this thread, it was "scheduled" to hit here tomorrow (Saturday). Now look at it.

Well, I'm staying.
It should be a CAT 2 by morning landfall. I managed through a high CAT 4 last year, so....
It's supposed to hit south of me, too, so the north side is always the "better" side. Plus, it's really moving now: about 20mph. So, it should hit quick and be gone. Of course, ya_just never know, but I'm sticking it out. As I said before, I have everything needed, and I've battened down "the hatches". Now, it's up to ma nature. The only thing I don't like this time around is the fact that it is supposed to hit at dawn. I hate being in the dark, sort of speak. Que sera, sera.

Hmm, you've obviously studied it all very carefully, I guess be more disruptive to move out, if you think you're gonna be ok there.
Let us know how it goes...

Well the worst has passed where I live. I've got some cleaning up to do but no damage this time. It began around 5:30 AM to get real loud... loud enough to wake me up. It's starting to quiet down now.
Took a ride around my neighborhood at lunch and there is some flooding but thankfully it looks like "Central Florida" residents escaped the worst. My grandmother down in southern Fla hasn't been heard from but the power hasn't come back up down there yet.
How did you make out Trip? Hopefully all is well.

I'm hanging in there Rich. Thanks for the thoughts.
I was awaken just like you at around 5am the other day. The banging will do that. :redeyes:I went and checked the weather on tv and the front side of the cane was passing through. Everything was going alright, except power was going out like every ten minutes for ten seconds or so. By 6:30, as the western side started passing (and things got worse), the banging got louder. But, I thought the worst had passed us by and we'd be alright with electric and water, etc. But NOOOO. As the storm was ending on this side of FLA, the freaking power goes out. I actually got online to check in, and BOOM>>>
Anyway. Pine Island has no potable water again, and my half of the island has no power. I'm on generator right now, but the SAT and phone lines work. They say power should be restored within 48 hours, unlike last year where it took 24 days. It looks like Everglades City and Ft Lauderdale took the brunt of this one. Cuba got nailed, too.
I'll tell ya what: having a generator AND supplies during this crap is ESSENTIAL!!
Last night, all my neighbors, who live 50 yards away anyway, were all gone. I got a "buzz" on and played my HT system until 2AM at full blast. I may have woken up Punta Gorda (20 miles away). Feck it. We survived another one.

My mom lives near Ft. Lauderdale with her sister (she's near 80, my aunt near 90). They were told not to evacute. They wished they did. Almost all their apartment windows were blown out (one window they had to try to keep up for close to two hours!). They finally got electricity back Wednesday night.
