Hello just registered to see if anyone could help me out.
I've read some posts with same problems, tried every fix suggested, still no luck.
I bought a Samsung: SH-W162C DVD burner,
few of my problems:
1: when updateing firmware, i get error "Flash cmd fail!!" the drive came with 09 on it (tried to get to 10). so i'm not sure if i really need to worry about that now
2: when burning (nero express 6.6.0.15 that came with drive) i get "Buffer too large" (i have a log file if anyone wants too see that)
I can burn CD-R's fine. those errors above are for DVD-R's.
my system:
OS: windows xp SP2
mobo: Chaintech 7NJS Ultra Zenith (with updated nvidia chip drivers)
4 hard drives: 2 with IDE cables (80 gig, 100 gig) and 2 with serial ata (80 gig, 120 gig)
1 dvd burner/ master /ide. (the drive im asking about)
Ive tried to set the drives to DMA mode, with no luck. in my bios everything that says DMA is enabled, and the PIO are on auto. no disable, only Mode 1-4
also i cant change the modes within windows (no advanced tab, like noted in other posts ive read)
[part of nero log]
=== Scsi-Device-Map ===
DiskPeripheral : Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAID01.10 fasttx2k Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAID01.10 fasttx2k Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : ST380013A 3.06 nvidesm Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1000BB-00CAA1 17.0 nvidesm Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SH-W162CTS09 nvidesm Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
----------------------------
so the DMA is off for sure. not sure what to do now. all my hard drives are full as hell. want to clean some of it up, and i want to avoid using 500 or whatever CD-R's.

Hi blasko, welcome to windrivers.
So ... mmmmmm ! Sata & pata present often spells trouble & most especially with Nvidia chipset boards
First thing to try is to stop the ide connections being 'nvidia something' & change them back into 'microsoft something' - this is tricky to describe, but in device manager, under disk controllers, you ought to be able to find two or more entries (depending on how many sata controllers are enabled/present in the bios) .. it'll look a bit like this -
http://www.abit-usa.com/images/nForce2-FAQ-1.jpg
& we want it to look like this:-
http://www.abit-usa.com/images/nForce2-FAQ-4.jpg
(both pictures are actually nicked from an nforce 2 chipset explanation, but same idea & near enough for illustration ;))
Nvidia IDE drivers== faster, but issues like this ('eventually' either improved drivers or newer bios will fix this, but not right now it won't !)
Microsoft IDE drivers==more reliable & less 'fussy' ;)

well hot damn, that worked. only took me 4 hours to get it working. but it worked. problem i was having was when i changed it to the primary ide control it was saying there was to many devices, and i could see 2 of my drives (s-ata ones), BUT i could burn dvds at that time. but didnt help be only seeing 2 of my drives, and 2 missing, my computer hasnt restarted that much in ages.
so eventualy after the restarts and autofinding the IDE controllers and installing them, it fixed itself. Now all my drives have the DMA and PIO option, and everything works perfect, Burning a DVD as i type. woohoo.
:mult:
Thank you very much for your help. I would have never thought that the nforce drivers would have messed it up, i figured updating them would help.
Thanks again.

i can normaly burn cd's and read dvd's and cd's but burning dvd's always comes up with the error....
i dunno what to do to fix this any more
am not that good in computers ( a blond gurl here lol ) so if anyone could help me i would need a step by step tutorial or at least as much info as posible on how to fix the problem
if it helps this is the screencap of my system device manager : http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/6547/helpedmeeeun8.jpg (win xp sp 2) ( i messed it up tho cause i tried messing with the Primary BM Ultra dma channel and when i did it kinda disapeared and , well it's not there any more *dies of shame* from what i think i noticed.. it went down somewhere into the umm scsi and raid controllers after i tried updating the driver .... *probably a huuuge mistake*

ok, you managed to have a board that is on the unusual side, meaning it's tough to find updates for. The one site that has what you need is currently down. Do you have the driver disk that came with the motherboard at all?

not the original , i bought this pc like umm a long time ago through some guy but at 1 point i took the pc to a repair shop and there they gave me a cd and on it its written : sapphire tech main board driver... from the sound of it that could be it?

Bingo!
Brilliant. Let's hope the cd works... put in the drive and see if you can find a file called setup.exe. If you can, double click it to run it. Follow the wizard to install it and then reboot if it doesn't ask you to.
On the scsi stuff, you have a program called cloneDVD? Please for the moment, uninstall it from add/remove programs - that should remove the virtual dvd drive and the scsi drivers. Reboot and drive your DVD again (not the firmware upgrade, just the drive functions). If it does work, then have a go with the firmware update.

uninstalled clonecd then installed the mother board drivers and restarted ..
this is where i stoped and dunno what next...
i tried using the dvd burner again it doesnt work nero gave me out this error log:
nero error log (http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/12/30/574465/Log.txt)
and my current device manager looks like this now:
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/5770/deviceld4.th.jpg (http://img412.imageshack.us/my.php?image=deviceld4.jpg)
now i need a slow step by step run through cause i dunno how to do anything else when it comes to this...
i tried updating the firmware too... same error appeares
i think am too dumb for this

not too dumb, you just have a bit of a tangle and sorting it out is going to take some patience.
You need to go into safe mode and remove the two disk drives from device manager. Then reboot.
Do you know how many disk drives you actually have?
Tamie-tam
July 18th, 2007, 02:11 PM
yea i have 2
1 is the cd/dvd burner.. thast the 1 messing up
and the other is just a cd burner and that one works normaly

Ah, no, not the optical drives (cd or dvd drives) - the hard drives where the data is kept. How many of those do you have?
Tamie-tam
July 18th, 2007, 03:35 PM
2
the smaller one i use to install the C drive with windows on it, it's only 10 GB
and the other one is 40 gb (D )

OK, but neither of them are scsi drives - they are ata ide drives. First try updating the drivers by going into device manager, double click on each driver, select the driver tab and click the update driver button. Allow windows to search everywhere including the internet. Does it update the drivers?
If not, boot to safe mode and go into device manager, uninstall both drives and then reboot to normal mode... did that work?

oki i tried updating it 1st but it didnt want to so i ran it in safe mode and uninstaled them and ran it again now in normal mode and now in the device manager under disc drives it says:
ST310212 A SCSI Disc Device
ST340211 1A SCSI Disc Device
i think thats what was suppouse to happen, right?
NooNoo
July 18th, 2007, 05:48 PM
err no, since neither of them are scsi devices.
It really isn't playing fair. Do you have your windows cd? I think a repair install is in order. here is how to do that (http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm) The warnings are there to say that this usually goes right but sometimes goes wrong. You (hopefully) have your data on the 40 gb drive, so only the programs on c: drive may be affected.
Having said that, I have yet to have a repair install that mucked up other programs. I think it's the safest way forward at this point. You will need to do all the windows updates again after the repair has completed.
