Cd Rom Drive No Longer Responding

What's up to all online! I am a newbie here, and I am having a problem with my CD ROM drives. They were working fine once upon a time ago, but now I am not able to play CD's, nor install any type of software because the CD ROM drives are not responding. Can someone help me?

First thing to try is the 'cd boot test' - see this - handy stuff (http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?t=70922) for full details on how to test your cd rom outside of windows to establish if the cause is physical or software :).
