radeon 9000

i have an ati radeon 9000 graphics cards which is running on and XP pro sp1 machine. I have instaled the latest drivers downloaded from teh ati website but the monitor keeps blinking. I know there isn't a conflict with any software because I have just formated and started from scratch. The things instaled currently are XP obviously, ati drivers and firefox. Can anybody suggest what can be done to reslove this issue?

Are all of the rest of the motherbard drivers up to date?
