XP 64 bit

my freind wants me to build him a gaming base unit, is win xp 64 bit advisable for this task?

Xp64 isnt still 100% usable for every day tasks IMO. Besides drivers and application incompatability, its still a way off to being as stable as XP32.

Yes, drivers are a big issue right now! Even hardware like IDE RAID controllers has rotten support. Wait a bit. In general, with most software, even games, you take a performance hit with XP64 even if it has all the drivers you need.
